Why teams switch

The usual ways planning tools fail, and what Farsight does instead.

Milestone-Driven

Milestones: Dated Promises, Not Tasks

A milestone is a promise your team makes: this will be true by this date. Start with a rough guess, then replace it with a few real checkpoints as you learn more. Farsight turns them into a forecast you can trust, so you can give the CEO a date and stand behind it, and tells you early when the work is running past one.

  • ✓
Start with a rough length, then sharpen it as milestones get real dates
  • ✓
Teams own their milestones; everyone else just reads them, with no status meeting
  • ✓
Green, Yellow and Red say how it is going and when someone needs to help
  • ✓
An early warning when the work is projected to run past a promise

How Reliably Do Your Teams Plan and Deliver?

Farsight keeps the history behind every milestone and estimate, so it can show what planning tools usually can't: how often dates hold, how far they slip, and how long work really takes. See it for each team, for each org unit with its teams rolled up, and for the whole company.

  • ✓
Dates held and slip measured against the length of the work, not just in days
  • ✓
Estimate accuracy, cycle time and blocked work, with sprint commitments alongside
  • ✓
Set a target once and see every team and org unit green or red against it
  • ✓
Look back 30 to 360 days; figures build up from the work Farsight records

Why not just Jira?

Jira tells you how many tickets you’ve closed. It can’t tell you how close you are to done. Farsight can, because your teams set dated milestones and the forecast is built from them. Use it instead of Jira, or alongside Jira if it’s already been established, but either way, it solves a different problem than Jira. It tells you where you are in your journey.

  • ✓
No Jira? Plan, set milestones and get a forecast in Farsight on its own
  • ✓
Already on Jira? Import your hierarchy level by level; sync pulls from Jira and never changes your tickets
  • ✓
Milestones show how near or far you are from done, not just how many tickets are closed

Frequently asked questions

What is Farsight?

Farsight is an initiative portfolio planning tool built by Always Move Forward. It brings a Now/Next/Later roadmap, OKRs and KPIs, org and team mapping, staffing scenario planning, planning metrics for how reliably teams plan and deliver, and CAPEX and cost reporting into one place, so leaders can see delivery and capacity without juggling spreadsheets.

Who is Farsight for?

Farsight is for engineering and product organizations where teams own their milestones and leaders need to see how that work rolls up into delivery dates and capacity. Teams stay focused on what they are delivering, while leaders get visibility without recurring status meetings. It is not built for a single team that only needs to track its tasks; that is what your issue tracker already does.

How does Farsight predict when an initiative will finish?

Enter just a rough length when you create an initiative and Farsight gives you a schedule prediction right away. Add milestones and real staffing data whenever you are ready, and the estimate sharpens automatically.

What is a milestone, and how is it different from a task?

A milestone is a dated promise: something that will be true by a certain day, such as "test payments working end to end by March 14". A task is work to be done; a milestone tells everyone else whether that work is on track. Teams keep their own milestones current, and Farsight uses them to sharpen the forecast and to flag work that is projected to miss a promise, so leaders get an early warning without a status meeting.

Can Farsight show how reliably our teams plan and deliver?

Yes. Farsight measures how often milestone dates hold and how far they slip against the length of the work, how often dates are pushed with no warning, how long work actually takes compared with its estimate, cycle time and how much work gets blocked, and how teams deliver against their sprint commitments. You can see each figure for the company, for each org unit with its teams rolled up, and for each team, over the last 30, 60, 90, 180 or 360 days. The figures come from the history Farsight records as your teams work, so they build up as you use it rather than covering work done before you started.

Can I set targets for those metrics?

Yes. A Subscription Admin can set a target for any metric, such as 80 percent of milestone dates held. Every team, org unit and the company is then shown against it, green when it is met and red when it is not, and each target also appears as a KPI that is measured automatically from your planning data.

Does Farsight work for both agile and waterfall teams?

Yes. Roadmap levels are configurable, teams set dated milestones, and sprint delivery data is tracked alongside them, so each team can plan the way it works while leaders see one rolled-up view.

Do engineers have to enter status twice?

No. Teams keep their own milestones current and everyone else reads them. Farsight can also pull work in from Jira, so you are not re-keying it.

How does Farsight catch overcommitment?

Staffing scenarios show each team's allocation by month and flag anything over 100 percent as over-allocated. You can compare plan variants before committing, and Farsight warns you when work is projected to run past a milestone.

Can I import my existing roadmap and milestones?

You can import your work from Jira, one roadmap level at a time, and choose what to add or ignore. Milestones are set in Farsight by the teams who own them. There is no other import path today, so if your roadmap lives in a spreadsheet, you enter the initiatives and Farsight predicts a schedule from a rough length.

Does Farsight work with Jira?

Jira is optional. Farsight works on its own, and if Jira is already established you can connect it: import its hierarchy level by level, sync individual items and sprint data, and map Jira statuses. Sync pulls data from Jira into Farsight; it does not change your Jira tickets. Nothing is added until you choose it.

How does staffing scenario planning work?

You can explore what-if staffing scenarios without risk, or let the built-in optimizer auto-generate a full staffing plan. Choose a strategy: priority order, targeted initiatives, or spreading capacity evenly across the portfolio. You can create multiple plan variants and compare them side by side.

What is a Now/Next/Later roadmap?

It is a roadmap that groups initiatives by what is happening Now, Next, and Later instead of promising exact dates far out. In Farsight you can drill from an initiative down through every level of its roadmap, and the roadmap levels are configurable to fit how your organization works.

Can Farsight track initiative costs and CAPEX?

Yes. Farsight generates reports on CAPEX, overall costs, and contractor spend by company, with detailed cost breakdowns for each initiative, so you can keep your budget on track.

Can I use Farsight with Claude or other AI assistants?

Yes, on plans that include it. Farsight can be connected to AI assistants that support MCP, the Model Context Protocol, such as Claude. Once connected, you can ask about your roadmap, initiatives, staffing scenarios, reports and OKRs in plain language, and people with the right role can make a limited set of changes. The assistant acts as you, with the same permissions you have in Farsight.

How much does Farsight cost?

Farsight has a free plan that needs no credit card, and paid plans priced per seat per month. Every feature is free during the trial, with no payment details needed. You can compare the limits and features of every plan on the pricing page, and try the demo before choosing one.
